The team at National Convenience Distributors is spreading the holiday cheer in the only way they know how— by donating to The Inn, a local soup kitchen, resource center, and emergency housing center in Hempstead, New York.
A Commitment to Charity
Aside from NCD’s festive decorations and annual companywide luncheons, the team at Harold Levinson Associates, NCD’s Central Division, celebrates the holiday season by sponsoring lunches at The Inn and supplying employee volunteers on Thanksgiving and Christmas. But as a result of COVID-19 risks, NCD Central has found the next best thing— donating extra food from their vendors.
“Our company usually sponsors two lunches a year, and 15 of us volunteer to serve lunch to guests, but that too has been canceled,” said Marty Glick, NCD’s Executive Vice President of Divisional Sales.
Despite these challenges, NCD makes it a priority to serve their community, particularly during the holiday season.
The Berro Family Foundation, established by Chairman of the Board Ed Berro, donates to over 50 worthwhile charities around the country. The holidays can often be the toughest times for those who are struggling, but by providing funding for operations like The Inn, NCD’s leaders lend a helping hand to the community when they need it most.
Like Berro and his family, Glick and his wife Robin are also involved in The Inn. Each month the couple would have ordinarily volunteered, but due to the pandemic, they have found alternative methods of contributing by donating food and clothing.
“I do it because it’s the right thing to do,” said Glick. “It’s a very humbling experience. The first time I volunteered I had to go sit in my car for a moment since I was so emotional. It just shows how fortunate we are. My wife and I really enjoy doing it each year and we’re looking forward to opening up in 2023 so ourselves and the company can continue to participate in the lunches and holiday meals.”
